Yes, I know we have all been taught since a very young age
to “be a leader not a follower.” Well, I am here to set the record straight.
This past weekend I went home to see my family and as I was sitting in church
Sunday morning a line our pastor said caught my attention real quick:
“In order to be a leader, you must first be a follower.”
Wow! That one line caught my attention and has been on my
mind most of the week. I got to thinking that if we all followed those
instructions we would be better off. First, FOLLOW Christ then LEAD others to
Him. Sounds easy peezy in my opinion (don’t hate on my childish phrase). So
many times we get caught up in the being a leader part that we forget that our
source of leadership comes from following Gods word and His plan for our lives.
Life here on Earth can be so fast-paced, but if we all take five, ten, fifteen,
however minutes to spend time reading Gods word daily then applying His
teachings to our daily lives we will see how simple it is to both follow and
lead. I know this probably sounds like an elementary concept to some, but I can't help but think that I am not the only human being who sometimes tries to call the shots for myself and others rather than resorting to what God says.
God’s word tells us in Hebrews 13:7 “Remember your leaders
who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their
lives, and follow the example of their faith.”
Now that piece of scripture makes me want to follow AND
lead! One line in a sermon has challenged me, and I pray that those who read
this blog will be challenged too!
